Short Wave Infrared Camera
SWIR cameras (also known as shortwave infrared cameras) and their core components like SWIR sensors are key to SWIR imaging. They operate in the short wave infrared range, with SWIR wavelength being a critical technical parameter for their performance. Whether you’re looking to understand short wave infrared camera functions, view SWIR images, or explore applications of SWIR imaging, these elements form the basis of shortwave infrared camera technology and its practical use.

SWIR Camera for Industrial Inspection

Short-wave Infrared Camera for Machine Vision

MindVision SWIR camera products are designed for industrial machine vision applications that require short-wave infrared imaging beyond the visible spectrum. With an InGaAs detector response wavelength of 0.4–1.7μm, a Short-wave Infrared Camera can capture image information that standard visible-light cameras may miss.
The MindVision Short-wave Infrared Camera series supports black level correction, good image uniformity, Gigabit network interface and compatibility with machine vision standards. It is suitable for low-light imaging, semiconductor inspection, microscopic imaging, material sorting, scientific research and industrial inspection tasks.
Driver support for Halcon, VisionPro and other software helps engineers integrate the SWIR camera into existing machine vision systems for image acquisition, analysis and automated quality control.

What Is a SWIR Camera?

A SWIR camera is a short wave infrared camera that captures light in the short-wave infrared spectrum, usually beyond the range visible to the human eye. This allows the camera to detect material differences, moisture, low-light features and surface characteristics that may not be visible under normal lighting.
In industrial machine vision, SWIR cameras are used when visible-light cameras cannot provide enough contrast or when the inspection target has special optical properties in the short-wave infrared range.

———— Advantages of SWIR Cameras in Industrial Inspection ————

Low-Light Imaging

SWIR cameras can capture useful image information under low illumination conditions. This makes them suitable for scientific imaging, microscopic imaging and inspection tasks where visible light is limited or unstable.
Material Difference Detection
Different materials absorb and reflect short-wave infrared light in different ways. A Short-wave Infrared Camera can help identify material differences, coatings, moisture, contamination or hidden structures that may not be clear in visible-light images.
Semiconductor and Wafer Inspection
In semiconductor inspection, SWIR imaging can help observe features related to wafers, silicon materials, alignment, defects and process monitoring. It is useful when standard industrial cameras cannot capture enough contrast for reliable inspection.
Stable Machine Vision Integration
With Gigabit network interface support and compatibility with machine vision software, MindVision SWIR camera products can be integrated into industrial PCs, inspection platforms and automated production systems.

SWIR Camera Applications

Semiconductor Inspection

SWIR cameras can support semiconductor inspection tasks where short-wave infrared imaging helps reveal material features, wafer information or process-related differences that are difficult to observe with visible-light cameras.

Material Sorting

A Short-wave Infrared Camera can be used for material sorting because plastics, minerals, coatings and organic materials may show different reflection or absorption characteristics in the SWIR spectrum.

Microscopic Imaging

For low-light scientific research and microscopic imaging, SWIR cameras can provide additional imaging information beyond the visible spectrum, helping researchers observe details under special lighting conditions.

Low-Illumination Inspection

In production or research environments where illumination is limited, SWIR camera imaging can improve contrast and help maintain stable image acquisition for inspection and analysis.
