On a high-speed production line, multiple cameras are simultaneously capturing workpieces in motion, but the time stamps are not synchronized, resulting in misaligned spliced images and measurement errors?
Precise robot gripping requires strict synchronization between the vision system and the robot arm controller, and a slight delay may result in empty gripping or collision?
Large-scale inspection system integrates PLC, sensors, and multiple cameras, with confusing data timestamps, making it difficult to accurately analyze and trace back?
Need to accurately record the absolute time of an event (e.g., the instant a defect is created), but the time is inconsistent across equipment?
The core of these problems often lies in the lack of time synchronization accuracy between devices! Traditional NTP (Network Time Protocol) can only achieve millisecond accuracy. To address this industry pain point, MindVision's Gigabit Network Series MV-GES240GC/GM now supports 1588 PTP (Precision Time Protocol) technology, ensuring that the time or frequency deviation of each device in the network is controlled at the microsecond level, thus meeting the high demand for accurate synchronization in communication networks.

Technology Uncovered - PTP
What is PTP?
PTP, Precision Time Protocol, also known as IEEE 1588v2, is a protocol specifically designed for network clock synchronization.
How accurate is PTP?
Ideally, PTP can synchronize time between devices on the LAN on a sub-microsecond (<1 microsecond) level! This is hundreds or thousands of times more accurate than NTP (milliseconds)!
How does PTP work?
Simply put, a “Grandmaster Clock” is elected in the network, and other devices (such as our camera) act as “slave clocks”, constantly calibrating their own time through precise calculations of network transmission delays to ensure that All devices are “in sync”.
Why is PTP an alternative to GPS?
NTP usually only achieves sub-second accuracy, while PTP can achieve ultra-high sub-microsecond accuracy. Secondly, PTP is cheaper to build and maintain than GPS (Global Positioning System). More importantly, because PTP can get rid of the dependence on GPS, it is undoubtedly important in terms of national security.
